Embers — Media Art Exhibition
拈華輪廻: 염화윤회 — 백남준의 불꽃
Identity, Branding, Visual System
2025
拈華輪廻: 염화윤회 — 백남준의 불꽃 is a media art exhibition in Seoul, South Korea, with a concept that frames Nam June Paik’s legacy as an enduring attitude of experimentation. Drawing from Yeomhwa (拈華), the wordless transmission of insight through experience, and Yunhwe (輪廻), meaning circulation and transformation, the exhibition presents Paik’s spirit as a fire that never ends, only changes form.
The exhibition features Pipilotti Rist, BREAKFAST Studio, and Keiken Collective, chosen for how each extends Paik’s experimental mindset through contemporary media. Artist Pipilotti Rist creates immersive video environments that emphasize sensory experience over interpretation; BREAKFAST Studio transforms invisible data and energy into kinetic, physical installations; and Keiken Collective builds speculative virtual worlds that explore fluid states of perception and existence. Together, they demonstrate the continued evolution of Paik’s attitude across images, systems, spaces, and virtual environments.
The visual identity translates this concept into molten-metal forms, representing experimentation in an active state, and into open, hollow structures, symbolizing passage and ongoing transition. A color palette inspired by embers, copper, and steel reinforces the idea of sustained heat and circulation. Applied across posters, banners, printed materials, and merchandise, the branding frames the exhibition as a living system, carrying Paik’s fire forward into the present.
